How to Choose the Right Area Rug
Area rugs do more than cover a floor - they define a space, absorb sound, and add comfort to hard surfaces. Choosing the right one comes down to three things: size, material, and placement.
Size matters more than most people expect. A rug that's too small makes a room feel disjointed. In a living room, your rug should be large enough for at least the front legs of your furniture to sit on it. In a dining room, the rug should extend at least 24 inches past the table on all sides so chairs don't catch the edge when pulled out. Under a bed, an 8x10 or 9x12 rug placed under the lower two-thirds gives the room a finished, grounded look.
For material, think about traffic and use. Wool is the most durable natural fiber - it resists stains, bounces back from foot traffic, and ages well. Nylon and polypropylene offer similar durability at a lower price and clean up easily, making them practical for families with kids or pets. Silk and cotton are softer but best suited for low-traffic areas like bedrooms.
If you can't find the exact size, color, or pattern you need in a ready-made rug, remember that we can build a custom rug from any broadloom in our showroom. That's an option you won't find at most rug retailers.
