How to Choose the Right Schluter® System for Your Tile Project
Picking the right Schluter components comes down to three questions: what's the project, what's the substrate, and who's installing it?
For a tile shower, you almost always need both Kerdi and a Kerdi-compatible drain, the membrane creates the waterproof envelope and the drain maintains the seal at the floor. If you're tiling over a wood subfloor, Ditra (or Ditra-XL for thicker installations) prevents the inevitable subfloor movement from cracking your grout lines. For a heated floor, Ditra-Heat is the membrane that doubles as the substrate for the heating cables. A single product replaces two layers.
Edge profiles get picked last but matter more than most people expect. The wrong profile color or thickness can cheapen an otherwise beautiful install. If you're not sure which profile fits your tile thickness and finish, we'll help you find the best fit in our showroom.
If you're a contractor sourcing for a job, our team can pull a full materials list from a set of plans, confirm in-stock quantities, and special-order anything outside our regular inventory through our authorized distributor. If you're a homeowner planning a project, the most cost-effective path is usually to have our Schluter® certified installation team handle the install. Buying materials from a big-box store and finding an installer separately almost always costs more once mistakes get made. Either way, our team can pull together a complete project list including thinset, profiles, drains, and accessories so nothing's missing on install day.
